Patrol Tip of the Week

STANDING IN THE STREET
Patrol has recently received complaints of people standing in the street chatting and not paying attention to cars attempting to drive through. To these people, for your own safety, please be conscious of vehicular traffic and defer to vehicles using the road. Patrol and your neighbors thank you.

News from Patrol TWO

SPEED LIMITS
Please note that all streets in SaddleBrooke TWO have a speed limit of 25mph with only one exception: MountainView Blvd, where the limit is 35mph.   This applies even if there is no signage on the street. Patrol thanks you for obeying the speed limits and keeping our streets safe.

BICYCLE STOP-AS-YIELD ENFORCEMENT
Eight states (so far) have adjusted their laws for bicycles using the Stop-As-Yield rule, which requires cyclists to slow down when approaching an intersection and determine if any other vehicle or pedestrian is approaching. If so, they must stop and yield to that vehicle or person. ONLY IF there is no one approaching the intersection, may the cyclist proceed through the intersection without coming to a complete stop. Patrol has used this enforcement procedure for over a year, and we do issue citations when we observe violations. Studies by NHTSA show that this approach increases safety for both cyclists and the public. Although this procedure in not yet state law in Arizona, the HOA has the right to use this method on our private streets.

GOLF CART & BICYCLE LANES

The recently added curbside lanes on MountainView Blvd and Clubhouse Dr are for golf carts and bicycles ONLY and may not be used by pedestrians. This is a safety measure to avoid accidents and injuries to walkers on our two busiest streets, which have either a decomposed granite walking path (MountainView Blvd) or a concrete sidewalk (Clubhouse Dr) on one side of entire length of the street. As a reminder, Arizona Revised Statute (28-796) requires that if a sidewalk is available for walking, you must use it, and if not, you must walk on the left side of the street (facing traffic). It’s the safest way for pedestrians on the street. Also, please note that driving an automobile in the golf cart/bike lane is not allowed, except when making a right turn.

NEW RIDE-ALONG PROGRAM

SaddleBrooke TWO Patrol is introducing a new program offering residents a first-hand experience observing Community Patrol operations. The Patrol Ride-Along Program provides an opportunity to better understand patrol responsibilities, safety procedures, and crime-prevention efforts within our community. Participation is open to current SaddleBrooke TWO residents or property owners  who complete the required waivers. Space is limited and participation may be restricted to one ride-along per household per calendar year. Click below to review eligibility requirements and submit your Ride-Along Application.

DRONES

Recreational use of drones above SaddleBrooke is not permitted in order to protect our residents’ privacy. Commercial (real estate) drones are allowed. Recreational drones may be used outside of SaddleBrooke.

NO GOLF CARTS
Carts that are not registered with ADOT and cannot reach 45mph are not legal on Catalina Hills Dr between SaddleBrooke Blvd and the entrance to The Preserve. Driving a golf cart on that stretch of County-owned road is extremely dangerous and a traffic hazard. There is an alternate way to get to Ocotillo Canyon Dr in The Preserve using Ridgeview Bl and Desert Trail Dr., which are all community streets with a maximum speed limit of 35mph, and Ridgeview Bl has a designated golf cart lane. Please use this route instead of Catalina Hills Dr for your own safety and compliance with vehicle code. Also, there is a paved path specifically for carts and pedestrians that parallels SaddleBrooke Blvd from Skyline Dr to Desert Bluff Dr.

WE’RE HERE FOR YOU
There is at least one Patrol officer on duty every hour of every day of the year. That includes holidays, during monsoons, 100+ degree summer days and frosty winter nights, driving past each home at least 3 times per day. We make sure that our buildings and facilities are secured at night and opened for use in the morning. We respond to resident calls about wildlife, lost and found items, welfare checks, accidents, injuries, solicitors, the occasional theft or trespasser, suspicious activity or even fatalities. And of course, we spend a lot of time monitoring traffic speeds and intersections for unsafe driving, the biggest safety problem throughout the SaddleBrooke Two community. Patrol thanks you for your support for the security and safety of our beautiful community

STREET PARKING

Parked vehicles should always be facing the flow of traffic (passenger side wheels adjacent to the curb). This state statue is for safety when leaving the curb, so you do not enter the oncoming lane of traffic first.
Also, cars parked directly across the street from each other create a bottleneck for traffic and emergency vehicles. Please make an effort to park on the same side of the street as any existing parked vehicle.

EMERGENCY CONTACTS

We have noticed a shockingly low number of our residents have provided an emergency contact to the HOA. Patrol has noticed that on the occasions we need to look someone up for a welfare check or other situations when the homeowner is not available in an emergency, no additional contact is listed in our system more often than not. This is particularly important for residents who live alone. It is easy to view or add to the information we have on file at sbhoa2.org/my-profile. Emergency contacts can be found or added by scrolling down to the bottom of the page.
